But even away from this natural spectacle, the Serengeti fascinates with its incredible diversity and vastness.

The name “Serengeti” comes from the Maasai language and means “endless land.” An apt description for this iconic savanna landscape that stretches to the horizon.

Animals in the Serengeti

The endless savannah is home to elephants, giraffes, and mighty buffalo. Prides of lions rest in the shade of acacia trees, while cheetahs lie in wait for prey on the steppe. Hippos doze in the rivers, while crocodiles patiently wait for their chance.

If you look closely, you will also discover shy inhabitants such as jackals, servals, and warthogs. And above it all, vultures, eagles, and secretary birds circle – the Serengeti is also a paradise for bird lovers.
